Chapter 15

Summer opened the screen door and then pushed on the inner door, expecting to see Martin still sitting there on the couch. There was a lot more she wanted to ask him and knew he wasn’t telling her everything. She assumed he was in the kitchen, but when she entered the kitchen, he wasn’t there either. She could see the back door was unlocked and slightly ajar. Her first thought was oh no, someone has broken in again. Then she realized Martin had gone around to the back of the house.

She cautiously made her way outside and peeked around the corner of the house, just to make sure it was Martin that was out there. He was looking up at the ledge of the window seal and snapping pictures with his cell phone. He clicked his phone several more times toward the ground and on various sites around where Summer saw the intruder. She slowly walked up to him but did not want to disturb what he was doing. She stood back watching him in action as an investigator, and it intrigued her. He certainly wasn’t the average Shady Oaks resident that hung around Millie’s all day. There was much more to this man, and she wanted to know it all.

“I’m sending these to you now, Stratton. I’ll talk to you later.” Then he hung up and turned to her. “Who else has been out here since the guy tried to break in?”

“Well, the man who was at the window, and of course, Sheriff Butler.”

“No one else?”

“No one.”

“I apologize for sounding like I’m interrogating you, but I just want to be sure who has been out here so we can rule out the fingerprints and shoe impressions.”

“I understand.” However, she was a bit upset at his tone. After all, it was her house that someone broke into, and who knows how many times. It was her back yard where someone was murdered. “You don’t think I had anything to do with any of this, do you?”

“Of course not!” He put his arms around her and gently kissed her. “I’m sorry that I sounded so rough. I’m concerned for your safety.”

“Are you sure?”

“Not for a minute do I think you are involved in any of this.” He took her face in his hands and kissed her. She closed her eyes, and all she could think about was the warmth of his breath and the sweetness of his kisses.

He pulled her to him, pressed her up against the back of the house as he lifted her shirt off. He clasped his hands in hers, and then slid one hand down toward her neck. He ran his tongue down her neck and over her shoulders, inches closer toward her breast. She quivered as his hands moved slowly down her stomach toward the inside of her thigh. Her body was begging for him, as he continued to tease her with his touch. He reached around her butt and lifted her toward him. He carried her through the back door and into the kitchen.
